A
discussion about the Kovatch's in Scranton, PA - lots of good
information about our relatives; lists people who are cousins to my grandfather
but I just need to know the family link above.
Here's the tree that I extract from the above post by Kathy Kovack Sweet:
John Kovacs (b. in Austria-Hungary)
+ Anna Rusnak (b. in Austria-Hungary)
Edward J. Kovack (b. 31 Jan
1922 in Scranton, PA)
+ Baker, Marilyn M. (b. 17 Aug
1922 in Scranton, PA)
Kathy Kovack
Sweet
Mike
Mary Kieper
Marie (Mary) Horovitch
Valeska Holland
Julia Lucy
Anna Brozetti
Bernice
Katherine (Kitty)
I was never able to get in touch with her -- maybe the email address is no
longer valid?
The interesting part here is that Edward J. Kovack had cousins named Alex (my
grandfather?), George & Mike so that could make my great grandfather (Alex
Kovatch) a brother of John Kovacs.
From
Peggy Smith - her grandfather was John Kovatch who came to American in 1908 and
said that none of his relatives came. He married Regina Suto who is also
from Hungary. She has some letters that look like it is spelled Kovacs.
This
thread says that "Kovatch, Kovach, Kovats, Novak and such names all mean
'Smith' but the Kovats line was rewarded for some great deed and their name was
changed to distinguish them from the ordinary Smiths."
